1 in 8 of us are supporting a friend, family member or loved one who couldn’t cope without us due to illness, age or disability. This Carers Week, staff and Carers at Trafford Carers Centre are asking the local community to show they care by taking part in their Cycle Challenge!
How far could you cycle to show you care? One of the Trafford Carers Centre carers, Lee, is preparing to go the distance! This Carers Week, Lee will be cycling to show he cares; doing daily sessions of 20,000m at Sainsbury’s in Sale. That’s one metre for every hidden carer in the borough.
Trafford Carers Centre supports 4,500 of an estimated 24,000 carers in Trafford. For Carers Week 2014, we are pledging to reach out to those missing 20,000; to offer them support, advice, information and to let them know that they are not alone.
Unpaid carers save the UK £119 Billion, every year. Despite this nearly half of all carers have faced financial struggles because of caring, and 45% have had to give up work because of the pressures of their caring role. Caring can take a huge toll on people’s lives, but most people don’t recognise that they are a carer, to most they are just getting on with what needs to be done; caring out of love for their family member, friend, partner, parent or child.
Trafford Carers Centre are calling on you to pledge your support to Trafford’s hidden carers; show you care by taking our cycle challenge. You can also text TRAF48 to 70070 to donate £3.
If you want to take part, contact Trafford Carers Centre on 0161 848 2400. They will be at Sainsbury’s in Sale on Monday 9th, Wednesday 11th and Friday 13th, or you could pop along to our Family Fun Day on Sunday 15th June at Trafford Carers Centre.
